Home Work
Since most of us can't start the search for a geocache without trying to google some of the stages first, here is a warm-up introductory riddle, which is probably the only thing that can be googled in this hunt. The solution leads you to the starting point, which is located within the boundaries of Vienna.
Field Work
Crop circles in the middle of the city? Not really. But close. How many special circles do you count here? Let this be A.
Move to the center of the southern most group of these special geometric figures.
For some time to come this will be your center of gravity. Since one is supposed to know the close surroundings of someone's camp, get yourself a little familiar with this place. Which phone number would be a good guess to call in case someone destroyed your crop circles or if they became overgrown by the vegetation? Let B be the crossfoot of this phone number.
Get back to the center.
At about B * 6° a sailor welcomes you.Convert his rank according to the usual rules (A=1, B=2, ...) into numbers. Let C be the sum of these numbers.
Now walk from your camp into a direction given by about 4 * C + B until you meet a grumbling man along with his pets. How many numeric charcters have been cast in ore (or carved into it) together(!) with the grumpy man? Let D be the number of numeric characters. Get back to the center.
At about (D + 4) * B / (A - 2) degrees you see a rather large street crossing. Go there and count each and every signal lamp belonging to that crossing. Add 8 to the total of signal lamps and let this be E.
Get back to the center.
Now walk into the direction given by E - C - B - 1 degrees until you reach the corner of a house where you find a display showing a number of prizes won by the store located here. In one particular year they could even win two prizes. From this year subtract the year of the foundation of that store, which seems to be in business for quiet some time. Let the result be F.
Get back to the center.
At about F / 3 + A degrees you see another very large writing. Convert the letters found into numbers according to the usual rule and sum them up to be G.
Next walk into direction 2 * G + A until you stand in front of the entrance of a building, which might well be mistaken for a zoo. Stand right in front of the entrance and count all the visible animals crawling around. One of them maybe tries to hide a little. Let the resulting number be H.
Get back to the center.
At about D * H + C - B the cache location is roughly described in its local language. Count the letters and let the sum be I.
Looking into direction D * I + A you see a building you already stumbled upon in the course of this hunt. Actually you didn't stumble upon it, so let's walk towards it and get to the opposite side. How many planar metal elements resembling steps do you see here? Let the result be J.
Get back to the center.
Since you're already here for quiet some time, this question must be easy to answer for you: What's the green around you being called? Convert the name into numbers according to the usual rules and let the sum of the numbers be K.
Now walk a little into the direction given by about K + J degrees. You'll find a passage well-known to the Viennese, which is even labeled with it's name. The passage seems to have a house number of it's own. Let the numeric part of this house number be L.
Get back to the center.
At last let's commemorate two famous musicians, who both enjoyed to be in this quarter. This can be done at K + 3 * J + L. Luckily it's almost always comfortably shady at this place. What do this two musicians obviously have in common at first sight? Convert this commonality into numbers according to the usual rules, sum those numbers and let the result be M.
Get back to the center.
